Protecting the Rights of Car Accident Victims Since 1987

The statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation are staggering: IDOT reports that in 2018 alone, there were 319,146 crashes involving motor vehicles on Illinois Roadways. Crashes resulting in injury accounted for over 21% of those crashes or 67,453, while 951 motor vehicle crashes involved deaths.

Negligent operation of a motor vehicle is at the root of these statistics and whether a driver’s negligence causes minor damage or catastrophic injuries, the at-fault drivers should be held accountable when their conduct results in causing harm to others.

For over three decades, we have been successfully prosecuting claims against negligent drivers involving traveling too fast for road conditions, disobeying traffic control devices, failure to yield the right of way, and a myriad of other traffic violations and negligent driving that resulted in injury to our clients.

Distracted driving due to the use of talking and texting on cell phones is also a significant cause of motor vehicle crashes because the driver’s attention is diverted from driving. According to research from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), 25% of police-reported collisions involve drivers using their cellphones, and texting while driving is six times more dangerous than impaired driving. Looking away from the roadway for just five seconds while traveling at 55 miles per hour is the equivalent of driving distracted for the length of an entire football field.

We have successfully recovered damages for clients injured as a result of distracted driving, including, most recently, for the victim of a multi-vehicle, rear-end chain reaction crash on Interstate 90 in the City of Chicago. The distracted, negligent driver was texting on his cellphone while driving on the expressway and plowed into the rear of our client’s vehicle, setting off a second chain reaction crash when our client’s vehicle struck the car traveling ahead of him. Thankfully, no one was killed, but our client was seriously injured and we were able to settle his case against the at-fault driver once his medical treatment was completed.
